The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) recently released its ruling over the complaint filed by the Republic of the Philippines against the People’s Republic of China. In the said ruling, the members of the PCA unanimously voted favoring the Philippines in all of the fifteen (15) issues raised in it. While the Philippine government called for calmness and sobriety over the ruling, Filipinos all over the world could not hold the revelry over such a historic win against China. It was likened to the victory of the scrawny David against the heavyweight Goliath. Watch Duterte’s full reaction here:

Planning to use the said victory as leverage in the negotiations, President Duterte intimated to proceed with talks with China. However, the latter state, remains intransigent–proposing to hold bilateral talks with the Philippines on the condition that the ruling of the PCA be disregarded completely. The Philippine government, through DFA Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr., rejected China’s proposition.

In a public gathering, Duterte was recorded taunting China in this manner: “Kaya ‘wag lang tayo mag-daldal baka ang China Sea ilagay…saan kaya nakukuha nang buong dagat kunin?” He added: “Gusto ko sabihin sa kanila, ‘kunin mo na Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, pati Atlantic Ocean, inyo na, kinuha lahat.'”

President Duterte stated that the Philippines already has all the resources it needs and that China can claim all of the South China Sea. “Maski na sabihin mo na makipag-away ang China, inyo na ‘yan, mas marami pa kami dito, hindi lang nila alam” he said. Watch the full video here:
